For centuries the Maple trees on the Hale’s family farm provided sap to be processed and sold or consumed. Guests at the festival will be able to learn this history and tradition first hand. C. O. Hale, the grandson of Western Reserve pioneer Jonathan Hale had a keen interest in all aspects of farming, including tapping the sugar maple trees on this farm. He supervised maple syrup production from his sugaring chair, on display in our Gatehouse Visitor’s Center.
The Marketplace at Hale Farm & Village will be open for shopping during the event, featuring Ohio made maple products including syrup, candy, sauces and snacks. Handcrafted at Hale hand-blown glass, pottery, iron work and wool items will also be available along with many other Ohio made and maple sugar season souvenirs.
Hale Farm & Village is committed to the health and safety of our guests, staff and volunteers. This year Maple Sugar Days will be updated to remove the high-touch activities. Western Reserve Historical Society’s reopening playbook, the Restart Plan, has been developed in close consultation with legal counsel, arts and culture leaders, and following guidance from local health experts, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and Ohio’s Responsible Restart Ohio guidance for Consumer, Retail, Services and Entertainment. Our plan includes requirements for face coverings for employees and visitors, no contact transactions, advance timed-entry ticket sales, increased access to sanitizing stations, enhanced cleaning protocols, physical distancing, and more.
